My name is Robin Abbey-Lee and I am in the third year of my PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, Seewiesen. I am studying the effects of perceived predation risk on great tits. Predation avoidance is costly, and individuals must determine how best to balance the risk of predation with other needs. My project aims to understand how great tits adjust breeding season behaviors in order to raise young in a risky environment. Building on previous work, I will also examine how personality differences in parents relate to breeding season decisions and success, as well as offspring survival and anti-predator strategies.
