Xiangzhen Kong

Hi, my name is Xiangzhen (call me Kong). I’m 31 years old and I work as a postdoc in the Department Lake Research, Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Germany. I am basically a lake modeller, and I have a broad interest in studying limnology and aquatic ecology using models. One of my current on-going approaches focuses on the differences of shallow lakes in temperate and sub-tropical climate zones. By using consumer-resource interaction theory, I hope to find out the reason for the shorter food chain length in subtropical shallow lakes comparing to temperate ones, and the consequences of the different food web structure on ecosystem functioning and stability. With this approach, we expect to provide more insights on the shallow lake ecology and implications for lake management. I am also interested in food web theory in general and topics therein such as multi-trophic interactions, for which I hope to gain more knowledge from this course.

In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, hiking and spending time with my family. Looking forward to meeting you all!
